PEOPLE´S MOVEMENT IN INDIA – A TALK BY SIRISH AGARWAL

The talk will explore how people´s movements in India are involved in educating, creating awareness and organizing people to struggle for their own rights.

The talk will cover how these movements are using the Right to Information Act 2005 to conduct social audits of government programs to tackle corruption. Additionally it will discuss how these movements are improving government schools catering to the poorest.

Sirish Agarwal completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University, New York in 1995 and worked for NASA for 16 years. He joined ASHA Parivar (a grass roots people´s organization) in 1997 and has been involved in various ASHA initiatives since then. He is currently teaching in Punjab University Chandigarh.
