DAILY TIMES – CIVIL SOCIETY HOLDS CANDLELIGHT VIGIL IN MEMORY OF BHAGAT SINGH

LAHORE: Members of civil society and different activist organisations, on Wednesday, marked the martyrdom of the Subcontinent’s young hero, Sardar Bhagat Singh, with a candlelight vigil and a theatre performance depicting Singh’s life and sacrifices, at Shadman Chowk.

The vigil was organised by the Institute of Peace and Secular Studies (IPSS) and other key progressive organisations like the Labour Party Pakistan and the Punjab Lok Rahs. A large number of people participated in the event and the audience watching the play kept chanting slogans in favour of Bhagat Singh and the stand he took against British imperialists in the Subcontinent.

Known personalities like Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Asif Hashmi, Labour Party General Secretary Farooq Tariq, IPSS Chairperson Saeeda Diep, Huma Mir, Maryam Arif, singer Jassi Singh, Munawar Ali Shahid, Liaqat Ali Advocate, Nadeem Anthony and others were also present on the occasion. Participants of the event also put forward their demand in front of the government for changing the name of Shadman Square to Bhagat Singh Chowk.
